An excellent and very insightful article, Thomas. You've told everything that Medium should ideally be ready with, in order to tackle the AI issue.

As a software engineer, I have been tinkering with ChatGPT for quite some time, and the results are outright fascinating and scary at the same time. What I feel is, we can use its service for any redundant work-related tasks where we ideally would not like to invest our time and mind, but for creative work, it's a big no-no. Some of the sonnets it creates are good, but if you go round and round with it, continuously asking it to create a poem for example, the results are repetitive and lack any newness or that feeling, that emotion, so to say.

I really liked all of your options to tackle these, but from Medium perspective, I feel the third one, to limit the number of stories per writer, sounds like the perfect plan! And of course, ban fake accounts. Maybe at a later point in time, even integrate AI detectors into Medium, with help from something like how Grammarly works, for example, via which every pub editor can detect in real-time if it is written by AI or human. But, until then, external tools are there to help!

We, the writers, still have the upper hand, and I am very hopeful, it'll always stay so! :)
